The Toronto Port Authority to Remove Hazardous Structures from Leslie Street Spit

Toronto (March 23, 2021) – Between March 29 and April 6, the Toronto Port Authority will be removing hazardous cycling structures from the Leslie Street Spit. These structures were constructed with concrete, brick and rubble without authorization from the Toronto Port Authority or the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority and pose a risk to public safety. As such the structures must be removed to preserve the natural habitat and ensure a safe environment for all park users.

This work will take place between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. daily, and will involve the use of heavy machinery including trucks, a bulldozer and a tractor-trailer. During this time, park users can expect to hear construction-related noise in and around the south shore of the Leslie Street Spit. Signage will be in place to advise park users to avoid the construction area. All precautions will be taken to ensure that the area is not damaged by the removal of these items.
