the Toronto Port Authority Receives Healthy Rivers and Shorelines Impact Award at 26th annual Living City Environmental Dinner

Toronto (November 8, 2019) – Last night at the 26^th annual Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) Living City Environmental Dinner, the Toronto Port Authority was announced as the recipient of the Living City Impact Award in the Healthy Rivers & Shorelines category for its efforts to keep Toronto’s harbour and waterfront clean.

 
 
 
the Toronto Port Authority’s Sustainability Committee, comprised of staff from each of the organization’s business units, was honoured to accept the award—which recognizes the positive impact of ideas brought forward by committee members over the years, including the Toronto Port Authority’s Seabin Pilot Project and organic food waste composting program.
 

The Living City Impact Awards recognize individuals and organizations that are helping to enrich communities in the TRCA’s jurisdiction and advance the TRCA’s Living City vision. In this vein, the Toronto Port Authority has provided meaningful support, along with its waterfront partners, to initiatives such as the annual Clean Water Our Future shoreline cleanup event, which, in 2019, resulted in the removal of 15 tons of debris, including discarded lawn mowers, bicycles and refrigerators from the waters of Lake Ontario.
 
 

 
Through the Seabin Pilot Project, now in effect at the Outer Harbour Marina and at Pier 6 on the city’s waterfront, the Toronto Port Authority aims to reduce floating debris and waste in the Toronto Harbour while helping facilitate research and waste literacy initiatives in partnership with the University of Toronto Trash Team, led by Dr. Chelsea Rochman.
