Celebrating 20 Years of Porter Airlines at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport

Twenty years ago, Porter Airlines took its first flights from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport with a new vision for regional air travel. Since then, the airline has grown into a Canadian aviation success story, expanding its network while helping redefine regional travel through connectivity, innovation and an elevated passenger experience.

On October 23, 2026, the Toronto Port Authority joined Porter employees, industry partners and aviation leaders at Billy Bishop Airport to celebrate the airline’s 20th anniversary and reflect on a shared history of growth, innovation and connectivity.

The stories of Porter and Billy Bishop Airport have been connected from the beginning. Together, the airline and airport have welcomed new infrastructure, expanded connectivity, and connected millions of travellers to the people, places and opportunities that matter most. What started as a new approach to regional air travel has evolved into a key transportation link for Toronto, supporting tourism, business travel and economic growth.

 While the anniversary was an opportunity to look back, it also offered a glimpse of what comes next. Just days after the celebration, Porter launched new twice-daily service between Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport, further strengthening connectivity between downtown Toronto and the United States. Together with U.S. Preclearance at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, the new service helps make cross-border travel more convenient and seamless for passengers.

As Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport continues to grow and evolve, the Toronto Port Authority remains focused on strengthening connectivity, improving the passenger experience and ensuring the airport continues to serve Toronto and the region for years to come.
