Toronto Port Authority and Toronto Marine Emergency Response Council (TMERC) host 28th Annual Marine Safety Day

On Monday, May 11, Toronto Port Authority and its Toronto Marine Emergency Response Council (TMERC) partners hosted the 28th annual Marine Safety Day at the Port of Toronto Cruise Ship Terminal.

The 2026 Marine Safety Day brought together more than 250 crew and officers who will be working aboard the tour boats that operate in Toronto’s Harbour throughout the summer. Annual training allows tour boat crew and officers to be equipped with the valuable skills required to deal with any emergency, should one arise.

Expert trainers from the Toronto Police Marine Unit and Toronto Fire Marine Unit guided participants through hands- on training modules on emergency preparedness exercises such as first aid, fighting a fire, water rescues, crowd control and abandoning ship.

Marine Safety Day also provides an opportunity for Toronto Port Authority’s Harbour Master to lead a training module on Toronto Harbour regulations – notably vessel speed limits and no wake zones.

The module on vessel noise in the harbour is delivered to educate vessel crew and officers on the regulations associated with vessel noise. This includes penalties associated with infractions, methods to mitigate vessel noise and to prevent disruption for other vessels, residents and visitors of the Toronto Harbour.

Toronto Port Authority is responsible for the safety of marine navigation in the harbour, and with a growing population of tourists and explorers enjoying Toronto’s waterfront, ensuring boater safety is a key priority for Toronto Port Authority. For more information on speed and noise regulations in the Toronto Harbour, or to provide feedback, please visit the Toronto Port Authority website
